Have you been to this part of the Notranjska region yet?
In the karst valley named Loška dolina, perhaps?
On the way from Ljubljana to the Slovenian coast leave the highway at
Unec and turn in the direction of Cerknica. From there the road leads
you towards Croatia. Not far from the border lies Loška dolina. It may
not be as well-known as thermal springs, seaside or skiing resorts, but
its treasures are unspoiled nature, fresh air and a peaceful lifestyle,
each and all of them most welcome to a modern citizen in search of relaxation.
Where the woods of the Kočevska region melt into the deep forests of the
magnificent mountain Snežnik, the small village of Gornje Poljane is located
more than 1000 meters above sea level. Among its four houses you will
find the home of the Kordiš family. You will be most welcome in the comfortable
and cosy apartments of this house, enjoying the owners' hospitality in
a unique dining room or just having a light meal.
The house offers room and board to 15 people. Those who enjoy life outdoors
can put up a tent. For larger groups and those who want to experience
the old peasant lifestyle there is always room to sleep in a large barn
with fresh and nicely smelling hay.
A small museum of traditional tools is being arranged in the barn and
around it. Visitors can learn which tools were used in the olden days
and even today, either when working in the woods or in the field, and
of course in the kitchen.
Enjoying a splendid view from Poljane over Loška dolina you can plan an
active holiday: Nature walks, trips on foot or by bicycle, jogging, boating
on the disappearing river Obrh, sleighing, natural ski runs, cross-country
skiing - you can try all that. If you are looking for a bit of adventure
try paragliding, archery or horseback riding. As there is a stable and
a meadow for horses to graze on, Poljane is a perfect starting point.
In autumn when leaves turn yellow and early frosts decorate the surroundings
you will experience a midnight dormouse hunt, ending in a jolly night
by the fire.
Forests that surround Loška dolina are home to deer, bear and lynx as
well as other game. You will enjoy taking photos or filming, admire the
secret life of the forest, pick mushrooms or gather herbs. We invite you
to visit Loška dolina and choose among the variety of possibilities that
will make your holiday pleasant and amusing.
Welcome to our green country!
