Ana Trojnar - BIOGRAPHY |

Ana started to dance when she
was four years old in a ballet kindergarten in her hometown Maribor. Followed
by ballet school she began as 14-year old to perform with The Slovenia National
Theatre in Maribor and danced in classical ballets Fountain
of Bachisarai, Peer Gynt, Nutcracker, modern ballet Jocasta,
various operas and drama Faust. With the latter
they attended International Drama Festival in Mexico City in 1990. In 1992
she took a degree at High School of Science and at the same time gained
complete scholarship for a 3-year dance course at Rambert School of Ballet
and Contemporary Dance in London from their Ministry of Culture. There she
continued her dance education. |
| During the course she started
to choreograph and attend open-talks with at that time leading choreographers
such as Lloyd Newson -DV8, choreographers from LCDS... During her course
she made three solos for herself (The Mask, The Woman
in White and The Bird) and one duet (The Maiden).
All of them were performed at school performances at the end of each term
and two of them in Slovenia during her school holidays. Her school-friend
Steven Skamarski choreographed a 7-minute solo piece Out
of Focus-In for her, which was performed at their school productions
and in Slovenia as well. |

She also much enjoyed performing in University
productions of musicals West Side Story and Rocky
Horror Show. After receiving A Diploma in Dance in July 1995, she
moved to New York City.There she choreographed her first solo performance
titled Ana Trojnar, which was premiered on the
13th March 1996 in Merce Cunningham Studio on Manhattan and followed by
one reprise. At the same time she worked with a choreographer Mary Siedman
and dance in her modern group Mary Siedman & Dancers. In fall 1996 she returned to Rambert School for a post-graduate studies for one semester and later on danced with Re-Animators until July 1997, when she made her come back to Slovenia. It was followed by a season of dancing in classical ballet Swan Lake with The Slovenia National Theatre in Maribor. |
| In May 1999 she moved to Ljubljana and started to work with primaballerina Madam Maritza Galas. Maritza invited her to dance in her production of a ballet Coppelia. The premiere was in Dec 1999 in Novo Mesto and after wards they performed it many times around Slovenia. | |

Her second solo performance
of ballet and contemporary dance titled Polet (Flight)
was premiered on 7th of July 2000 in Celje (Slovenia). Since then she has
been performing it (or only pieces of it) around Slovenia. The performance
accompanies the exhibition of photos Portret plesalke
(The portrait of a dancer) by their author Brane
Širca. In December she choreographed contemporary duet titled Modern duet, which was premiered in Celje as well. Then in April 2002 she had a series of performances of Flight in Maribor in Pekarna. There was filmed a short documentary film Polet/Flight about her (by Ozan Akinci and Michael H Currie), which was shown at the 1st slovenian dance festival Moving Cake in Ljubljana in February 2003 and on Creative Forum in Alexandria (Egypt) in Dec 2003. |

In June 2001 she performed with
The Slovenian National Theatre in Ljubljana in a classical ballet Swan
Lake at The Cankarjev dom. At 22nd June Ana has danced on the wish of Lojze Peterle, the slovenian member of European Parliament on the Solemnity academy at 15th years anniversary of Slovenian Liberation Government (Slavnostna akademija ob 15-obletnici vlade slovenske osamosvojiitve) in Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana, the main city of Slovenia. She taught also at Music and Ballet High school in Maribor in 2003-2004. This year she teaches children to dance at Music school Kamnik, Dance school Urška Kranj, Music school Raqdlje ob Dravi and Ravne na Koroškem. |
